gnuplot-mode software package provides Gnuplot mode for Emacs, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnuplot-mode
gnuplot-mode is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnuplot-mode package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnuplot-mode *
You will get with gnuplot-mode package name, version, architecture and description in a table
